Pros: Beautiful and functional
Cons:

I have purchased between 25-30 hairsticks from this artist. What I love most about his work are his combinations of natural woods to make interesting designs. He will often use as many as 4 different woods to get a look. One color for the stick, another for the topper and a couple bands of different woods to give yet more to the design.

This is truly wearable artwork. He has experimented with dymondwood, dyed wood and natural wood combinations but my personal favorites are the ones made from all natural woods.

His designs provide great eye appeal and the craftmanship is excellent. The finishes are smooth as glass and have the soft glow of well turned wood.

The only downside to ordering his product (and a very small one) is that he lives and ships from Costa Rica and unless you also live in Costa Rica you will have to wait. I live in the U.S. and it generally takes at least 2 weeks for items to arrive. I only had one time that an item took significantly longer and after 4 weeks, Luis, refunded my money because the item had not arrived. To my surprise, about 2 weeks after that the hairstick finally did arrive and I paid him once again for the item. But this was during the Christmas season rush and the fault was totally on the head of the postal service.

All hairsticks come in a wooden box, also handmade by Luis. It is a special touch that I appreciate. One other thing to note is that Luis makes several small hand-turned items such as crochet hooks, awls, etc. and sometimes this means that one has to be patient in waiting for a new hairstick to be presented, but it is well worth the wait. I visit his site daily to see what is new. Sometimes I won't see a hairstick for a few weeks and then suddenly several will pop up.

You may also want to consider that although his auction prices are quite low considering the value of his work, this may not last once people discover his abilities.

Currently Luis' items can be purchased through eBay auctions at:
