Fall of 2007 I used up a bottle of GNC Ultra Nourish Hair, and did not recieve "above average" growth. I recieved normal growth, which is 1/4 an inch a month.
Currently, I use the Origin brand from Target. Bottle contains 100 tablets of 1000mcg. I take one daily. Have noticed about 1/4 growth already, and it's only been 2 weeks. (I do not measure monthy, I measure once a quarter). I believe that I did not get growth from the GNC's because my body was depleted of the nutrients, and once it built up a store and put it where it was needed, it could spare some for my hair. (It sounds good in theory at least!)
I would rec'md these to people wanting faster, healthier growth, but keep in mind, there is no miracle product for hair. It takes me a second to swallow this lil pill, and I take a handful of vitamins anyways so this is no way hindering to my nightly beautification ritual.

I started taking Biotin several months ago because I was only avaraging LESS THEN 1/8" per month. I started off taking 1 5000mcg tablet per day, My hair growth shot up to 1" per month and I recently doubled my dosage since I have IC and this is a water saluable pill that is excreted in the urine, so I wasnt sure I was getting all I was taking before it passed through. I now take either 2-5000mcg pills a day, one in the am and one before bed or more smaller pills per day that equal 10,000mcg. I love that not only is my hair growing so fast I can practicly watch it grow, but my nails are also. This pill helps with matabolism, I have been able to lose weight easier then I ever have, and dont get breakouts and acne like I used to...all around its my wonder drug ♥
Its a bit pricey for me but I also buy the higher dosage per pill.

got it mostly for my brittle nails and they are very strong now. probably takes about a few months till you really notice a difference but it's defiantly worth while 
as hair's the same material it will equally help my hair also, double bonus.
