Pros:
Absorbs easily, hard to over-do, very convenient (solid at room temperature... usually.)
Cons:
Does not provide the slip and shine that some other oils do, can leave ends feeling "drier" than usual
I use an unbranded Malaysian coconut oil, purchased from an Indian grocery shop at $2.50 Austalian for half a litre.
Unlike many other oils, coconut oil seems to absorb readily into my fine hair, and I can use a fair amount before it starts to look at all oily. It does give some detangling benefits, and does seem to help somewhat in enhancing shine, but it is not the best oil I have tried for this.
It often tends to leave my ends feeling somewhat dry and less than silky with repeated application (on consecutive non-washing days).
As long as I keep it well away from my scalp, it is very difficult to over-oil with coconut oil, particularly when it is solid in the jar.
This is not the best oil for my hair, but it is certainly very convenient, easy to use, and does give the benefits one would hope for from oiling.

Ah, coconut oil! My skin loves coconut oil. My hair does not.
I have fine, dry hair prone to breakage. My hair tolerates coconut oil, but only seems to really like it when applied to wet hair or when applied as part of a blend of heavier oils. When it is applied to dry hair, my hair starts to feel crisp. It seems to work well as a pre-wash treatment.

makes hair silky, soft, and shiny

Cons:

easy to overdo

I use coconut oil to combat dry ends, and it works well. I apply a fingernail full on wet hair after washing, and the same amount on dry hair every day between washings. I love the smell of unrefined coconut oil - so fresh! The smell disappears from my hair after an hour or so.

Pros:
absorbs easily, not greasy, no chemicals, offers good hair protection
Cons:
Because it's great, one can get carried away and overdo it
Pros: - I have used coconut oil on both dry and damp hair without any problems.
- I usually use it before I go out, showering, and sometimes before going to sleep.
- It seems to offer some "protection" from the elements
- It gives a shine.

Bonus: It's nice to rub into my skin and get that extra softening in.
Be careful: Though it absorbs pretty easily for me, too much can cause the hair to become oily faster and maybe attract dust particles. Otherwise, it seems to seep into my hair pretty fast in just the right amounts and offers the right amount of protection.
I can't remember the price I paid, but it's around $10.

Pros:

smells wonderful, absorbs easily, helps with detangling
Cons:
can build up if used to often between washings and make hair dry and tangly
I love coconut oil. What I have my sister got for me in Atlanta for $7 US for a gallon. Actually she gets like 5 gallons and splits it between several friends/family. I use it to cook with some as it is food grade (but not much because of dietary issues). My hair likes it usually. I use just a drop on my ends ir if I get tangles at my nape. I also use it on my DD for detangling when my conditioner mix doesn't work.
BTW it makes divine brownies.

Coconut oil seems to do the best of any oil I've tried in protecting hair, but unfortunately my hair can't quite absorb it. I can see why other people swear by it though.

Pros:

Can be nice if you want a sweeter scent-Usually not too pricey-Very moisturizing
Cons:
Can be greasy-Can be undesirable to those who don't like coconut scents-Can be too heavy
I sometimes mix this with my jojoba to stretch my jojoba, and if I want a light scent to back other scented oils in my jojoba oil. I also use it for deep conditioning, and added to henna mixes for scent and moisture.

I purchased my Organic Coconut Oil from an online store in France, and I love it. I use it on my ends mostly, but will mix it with a conditioner for deep conditioning. It smells wonderful, is thick and very moisturizing. I give it a perfect 10.

Pros:
moisturizing, good for pre-poo, prevents peroxide damage
Cons:
can leave hair dry/crunchy ends, can fade hair dyes, dual solid/liquid
I don't use coconut oil much, mainly because always leaves my hair crunchy/dry/almost breaking, but I'm a frequent shampooer so that isn't that much of a big deal. I used prior to bleaching/hairdyes, the results were the same at eye level, since I don't get any visible damage anyway, but I find interesting to use it. That's my only use for it.
I live in a hot climate and specially don't like that it's liquid during some days/usually everyday, and then some other days it's solid (usually at night) because of how I store it, which is an easier container for solid, but awful to get it out as a liquid. If I was going to use a bottle would be impossible to get it out while solid. If I was to melt everyday (warm a bottle) that would be a con either way. So I don't really like this oil property at all.
While it's my "least favorite" oil, I still recommend a try, only because it works for so many people. But be aware of the risks if you choose so.
Update: I find that if I use it when isn't too cold or too hot my hair doesn't get very crunchy, so I'm using it with sucess, I'd say. A paste consistency seems ideal for me.
