AVG is another one of my "everything" products. In hair, I use it in Snowy's Moisture Treatment, and as a hair gel to keep my pesky bangs in proper order. It doesn't flake-off like many hair gels, and has a flexible hold so my bangs don't look plastered together.
For skin this is a great light moisturizer. I got my bottle at Longs in the First-Aid section.

Hey there Happylynn I was just wondering if you could post the ingredients? Most Aloe gels I find in them mainstream market contain parabens or other types of preservatives as well as alocohol...I was wonder if fruit of the earth is the same...thanks!

Pros:
|
Clear, inexpensive, doesn't contain alcohol or painkillers, lasts forever
|
|
Cons:

Contains DMDM hydantoin and diazolidinyl urea.
|
|
Ingredients: Aloe Vera gel, triethanolamine, tocopherol acetate (vitamin E acetate), carbomer 940, tetrasodium EDTA, DMDM hydantoin, diazolidinyl urea.
I don't use aloe for many things (an occasional SMT or batch of kimberlily's defrizz spray), but when I do, this is the one I go for. I've had this bottle several years, and it's still perfectly fine, and is less than half empty.
The advantage to this versus aloe vera juice is that it is a gel consistency (which is generally easier to use than a liquid, in my experience), and it has preservatives, so it won't go bad in a few days, like pure aloe juice.
Really, I'm posting this review because there's a lot of long-named ingredients in this product, so I'm going to briefly explain what they are.
Aloe Vera- no explanation necessary, I hope. Moisturizing, healing, etc.
Triethanolamine- pH balancer.
Tocopherol acetate-- tocopherol is vitamin E, acetate reduces the acidity of vitamin E. Antioxidant, good for scars, skin, etc. Great stuff!
Carbomer 940- Gelling agent.
Tetrasodium EDTA- chelating agent, removes metals and minerals from a liquid.
DMDM hydantoin- preservative. It does work by releasing miniscule amounts of formaldehyde into the solution, though.
Diazolidinyl urea- same basic thing as DMDM hydantoin.
Do keep in mind that this product is mostly aloe, and that there is very little of the other ingredients in this product.

The best value for the money! I got a 12 oz bottle at WalMart for $3.92. At the health food store I paid around 8 for a 4 oz bottle! (different brand) As far as I can see there isn't much difference- except for the price.

I purchased this as I had run out of my standard GNC aloe gel and found they no longer carried it. Found it at my supermarket for almost 7 dollars , so held off, and found it at walmart for 3.29.
I'm not entirely sure if my hair loves this stuff, but i have it in the mister bottle and have tried it as a gel. It works fine for both, but I use it mainly on my face after washing instead of heavy moisturizer. Love it to bits.

Just love this product, £3.90 from amazon and it comes in a large bottle with pump on the top so no wastage, lasts ages (about 6 months) I use it as a hair gel, in SMT's, on burns, as a moisturiser it has so many uses, a good all rounder and highly recommended.

As everyone has said, it is excellent! I try not to overdue it because it leaves my hair looking stringy, but in a spray bottle or scrunched into waves it decreases frizz and gives flexible hold. A must have.

All natural, no preservatives (watch out for "99% pure" types), lightweight/non-greasy, non-waxy
|

Cons:

I cannot use this because I have an allergy to aspirin/salicylates.
|
|
My skin and hair love aloe vera gel. Unfortunately, my immune system does not. I have a horrible allergy to aspirin, and therefore this product as well, because aloe vera gel contains natural salicylates. Watch out if you're aspirin-sensitive.

I didn't like it as a gel because it made my hair flakey but I can't rate it as a spray because I didn't think to use it that way.

Cost: if you grow your own, you don't have to pay it!

If you have to buy aloe vera gel (AVG), this has got to be the one to buy. Alcohol-free, colour-free... it is the purest one I have seen.
Just like fresh AVG, I can't use FOTE AVG straight: it makes my hair (fine, wurly 2b) somewhat lanky and sticky, without giving enough "hold" to act as a true gel. Mixed with an oil, however, it gives a similar result to an "ultra light hold" styling or texturing gel or serum.

I use this added into a conditioner mix as a de-tangler and treatment for my DD and myself. Occasionally I will use a touch when doing her hair into braids to help control fly-aways. Of course it is great when any of us gingers get burned.

The only hair gel I've ever liked. It's nice to know that your hair gel is actually helping your hair rather than hurting it. Plus, it's cheap and readily available.

This is the best aloe vera gel I've used. It's so natural and has so many uses. My favorite way to use it is in an SMT (Snowy's Moisture Treatment)

Wish the hold was stronger, Don't really like the idea of the DMDM Hydantoin ingredient
|

I like that this product is easy to find, and not like some, where you have to order it online. I've been using this product for a long while, even before I began my serious hair journey. It really is mostly aloe, unlike some products that are labeled "pure" aloe vera, and really are just shady tubes of gelatin chemical gumbo. It doesn't flake, it doesn't seem to do evil to my locks, and it has more than one valuable use. It works great as a moisturizer for me, and on my sensitive skinned offspring. Pretty much scentless, and awesomely gentle as hair gel for a toddler who very much wants to imitate the hairstyles of heroic anime characters.
