I had a hard time finding a good cone and protein free detangler that was cg friendly in regard to other ingredients as well. The drugstore stuff usually just doesn't cut it for me as either being cone laden, protein heavy, or just not moisturizing.
When I found out that this conditioner had good slip and was protein free, I had to try it out.
It is cg friendly (no cones, mineral oils, waxes).
Appearance: Whitish, opaque cream on the light side of medium. Liquifies quickly in the hands and hair.
Scent: Faint mango scent that does not linger.
Availability: Hard to find off line. Can be bought at the Kinky-Curly website or at CurlMart. There is also a store locator on the Kinky-Curly website.
Price: $12 for an 8oz bottle.
Performance: This is the best detangler I have ever used. It liquifies my knots to the point where most can be scrunched or finger combed out. I will follow up with a wide tooth comb. It is nice to have such an effective gentle detangler. I often follow up with a heavier conditioner for more moisture, but finer haired folks may find that this alone could be enough to condition as well. I might be able to get by with this alone in the summer. Nothing beats the slip on this stuff. I also use it as a leave-in to help with moisture retention and frizz reduction.
It is a bit pricey at $12 for an 8oz bottle, but it is worth every penny to me. I get quite a few tangles and this does the trick without trauma to my hair.
While the line is geared towards those with curly and kinky hair, straighter haired folks who have tangle issues should be able to use this as well. The ingredient list looks friendly enough.
I gave this a 9 only because of limited off line availability and the lack of a larger sized bottle. Performance-wise it has been a 10.

This is a lovely leave-in conditioner that works great to moisturize and detangle my curly hair. It's light, smells delicious, and distributes very well. The only real downside is that it's rather expensive for the size of the bottle, and there isn't a "bulk discounted" size.
