Description: Panacea was a minor goddess in Greek mythology but her name survives today as a term used for a cure-all or remedy for all ills or diseases. Panacea means "heal-all" and the goddess personified healing through herbs. In the Middle Ages, the name was applied to a mythical herb supposed to possess a cure-all quality. Some herbs that have been considered panaceas include mistletoe, yarrow, and valerian.

This salve is specifically meant to help heal and protect the ends of hair. Although there is no way to mend split ends, this butter will help damaged hair by smoothing the cuticle, helping to keep dry ends moisturized, and prevent protein loss.

Ingredients (Original Blend): Certified Organic Shea Butter (Butyrospermum parkii), Herbal infusion of Rooibos (Aspalathus linearis), Pure Refined Coconut Oil, African Wild Honey, Behentrimonium Methosulfate (and) Cetearyl Alcohol, Panthenol (pro-Vitamin B5), Vegetable Emulsifying Wax, Hydrolyzed Oat Protein, Potassium Sorbate, Citric Acid , and the Essential Oils of Frakensence, Myrrh, Sweet Orange, Ylang Ylang, and Limone.

Pros: Great deep treatment, can be used pre-wash or post-wash, fabulous smell, supports a small business.
Cons: Can be a bit too heavy.

I've tried the original blend of panacea and the winter blend. On the original: Wonderful smell, deep and incense-y. I've used it liberally as a deep treatment pre-wash, it works well, and leaves my hair soft; my ends particularly drink the stuff in! When I do overnight treatments, I'll often find my ends have absorbed it all by morning, even after I've saturated them. Post-wash I sometimes use a half-pea-sized amount on my hair while it's still damp (and another half pea just on the ends), and then seal it all in with 'cone-y serum. My hair is happiest when I do this - the panacea keeps my hair soft and healthy, and I love waking up and catching the slight scent of it in my braid. The winter blend is a tiny bit heavier, and the smell is different - much fresher, citrus-y - but it gives my hair the same benefits as the original. I have to be careful not do over-do it when I use it post-wash, as too much can make my hair stringy, but when I get it right, it works wonderfully. I was worried it was a little sticky at first, but once I'd rubbed it between my palms a few times it turns soft and smooth like a butter. My hair loves this stuff, and the 2oz pot fits perfectly in the top of my fridge door.

Pros: Defrizzes & Smells Awesome
Cons: Too much is too much

Love this product. I have thick wavy coarse wiry hair with a propensity towards split ends and frizz. This is my go-to product. I use it in two ways; as a post wash leave in I comb it through the bottom 10 inches of hair and then damp bun and then I also use it to smooth any frizzy flyaways in up do's or the canopy in between washing.

This is one of those products that may feel too heavy on wet hair but then once hair dries it leaves hair light, shiny and smooth.

Word of caution - for me, once I use too much my hair will get cloudy and sticky, so I have to be careful how much I use and that it gets evenly distributed, which isn't always easy with butters.

The smell of the original is probably one of the best smells on earth, rich incense and herbal, earthy, but not so strong that you can't use it on work days.
