Beautiful.

Comb itself badly finished and rough, not strong enough to support an updo, prices becoming steadily higher (and more unreasonable).

I love my butterfly comb. I never noticed it in the movie, but I admire art nouveau style, and despite the low quality finish, I have a major soft spot for this comb. The comb itself however is fairly awful. It's cheap plastic and without care, the tines will easily snap. I had to file mine a lot to get it to some semblance of smoothness, it was very rough and snaggy beforehand. (When I do eventually break it, I plan to have the butterfly mounted on a 60th street fork. ) Until then, it's an ornamental piece, and unless you have very thin, fine hair I wouldn't think it had the strength to hold up an updo on it's own. It should be noted too that the silver finish is just that - a finish. It wears off over time and reveals the brass underneath, so be sure you're okay with a gold-ish look as well as a silver one.
Do I still love it, and would I still recommend it? Yes. I love the way the light plays through the butterfly, and it really is a statement piece. I normally wear it in the top of a French braid, or nestle it in the join of a combination braid. The price seems to only keep rising, I'm glad I got mine when prices were relatively low. For those who're thinking of paying the more current and expensive prices for it, bear in mind the (lack of) quality. This is something you buy because you love it, and because it's pretty, not because it's practical or useful at all.
